Another Joker movie is coming our way and Joaquin Phoenix seems to be setting his own record for the film after the late actor Heath Ledger had set standards in the character of Joker.

Ledger made his remarkable acting when he played the role of Joker in Batman: The Dark Knight that is so hard to break because any actor won’t escape in comparison set with him.

The official trailer of the standalone film Joker, helmed by Todd Phillips, has been circulated and you can feel not just the dark side of Joker but how his “dark” has begun. It brings you to that sort of depressing mode that makes you think if you should show pity or not to the villain.

It’s a different movie that even if you compare Phoenix to Ledger, there is this one side that the two are incomparable.

Sure Joker is another “serious” film under the DC Extended Universe unlike Wonder Woman and Aquaman, in which they inserted comedy. It’s so serious that you probably going out the theater wondering if you need some coffee to relieve stress out of your nerves.

It’s ironic that you’re watching Joker who throws his jokes that hurt you instead of make you laugh. You’re aware of it ever since you learn about his character in DC comics, in cartoon, in TV series, and in movies as rival of Batman. You know that Joker doesn’t make fun to make you laugh.

The standalone film Joker starring Phoenix serves you a new flavour of tragedy as it brings you the story you probably have forgotten or never seen before.

Rotten Tomatoes has given the movie an 88% rate, so perhaps some are already thinking if it is worth watching. Rates are just rates until you see the movie yourself to prove them.

In case you fail to remember, Joker is Arthur Fleck. His failure to be a comedian brought him to take the “joke seriously”.

On Phoenix’s portrayal of the role, we can assume that he undoubtedly put so much preparation to bring the character into life. You don’t see Phoenix who played in Gladiator, but rather you see Joker struggling in his life, contemplating his existence.

Director Phillips has surely created it that you’ll forget that he was the director of Hangover trilogy, Road Trip, and Due Date. It’s like he’s taking a break from comedy to give way to the hurtful humour of Joker that will take 2 hours and 2 minutes of sitting and joining Fleck.

Robert de Niro plays Murray Franklin, a TV host who gets up-close and personal with Fleck, with Marc Maron as Ted Marco, Fleck’s agent. Zazie Beetz plays the love interest of Fleck as Sophie Dumond.
